police said.
When officers stopped a vehicle at the intersection of E. Main Street and Seymour Avenue at approximately 3:31 p.m., the teenager and another man got out of the rear of the vehicle displaying firearms, Division of Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Albert said.
An officer opened fire, striking the 17-year-old who was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition but later upgraded to stable condition, Albert said.
Officers took a gun from the youth while rendering first aid at the scene, Albert said.
Officers chased the other man, who fled the scene on foot, and caught him in the 1500 block of E. Mound Street where they also recovered a firearm, Albert said.
Officers recovered a firearm from the individual who was shot at the scene of the traffic stop and rendered aid until medical personnel arrived.
Officers removed two other men from the vehicle and secured them, Albert said.
Charges are pending against the teen and Najaa Ellman, 18, while 19-year-old Dock Parker Jr. was arrested on an outstanding unrelated warrant and the fourth occupant of the vehicle was released, Albert said.
