Teen recovering from gunshot wound, man sought

COLUMBUS – Police are searching for a 59-year-old man in connection with a shooting in Linden late Wednesday night that sent a 14-year-old girl to the hospital.

Charles Chubb has been charged with felonious assault in the shooting at approximately 11:39 p.m. in the 900 block of E. 14th Avenue, Sgt. Dave Shimberg of the felony assault unit said.

The victim was listed in stable condition.

Questions linger in deaths of man, woman

Police are investigating the shooting deaths of a man and a woman whose bodies were found inside a home in South Linden Thursday.

UPDATE 4/6/22 9:38 a.m.: Police have identified the victims from this incident as Cassandra Salters, 22, and Zhairon Jerez Shemmar Scales, 24. The investigation is on-going.

Little information was released about the incident, which was took place in a home in the 1300 block of E. 26th Avenue, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the Columbus police homicide unit.

Officers dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:23 p.m. on a report of a dead woman inside the home found a woman and man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, Powell said.

They were pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus fire personnel.

The investigation continues and Powell says the victims’ names are being withheld pending identification and notification of next-of-kin.

17-year-old arrested in 2021 murder

A teenager is facing four felony charges in a drive-by shooting on the Northeast Side that left a man dead in May 2021, Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Columbus police homicide unit said.

Ellis Caldwell was arrested Wednesday afternoon by Columbus SWAT officers.

He was charged with two counts of murder and two counts of felonious assault in the slaying of Keishawn Riley, shot to death in a parking lot near the Columbus Square Bowling Palace on May 21, when witnesses told police two male suspects pulled up in a Ford Explorer and opened fire and then drove off, Pilya said.

Riley died later at Riverside Methodist Hospital, the 76th homicide victim of 2021, when a record 205 homicides were recorded in Columbus.
