COLUMBUS – Police say a 16-year-old is recovering after being shot by officers responding to a reported altercation at a home in Linden Monday afternoon.
UPDATE: The officer involved in this incident was identified by police as Ofc. Jason Fischer, a 17-year veteran of the division
Officers responded to the Gerbert Road home on a report of an argument between two men, one of whom was reportedly armed with a gun, division spokesman Sgt. Dean Worthington said in a statement.
The officers heard a fight inside when they arrived and opened the door to find the 16-year-old with a gun in his hand, Worthington said.
One officer fired his gun, striking the suspect at least once, Worthington said.
The officer rendered immediate first aid until responding EMS personnel arrived and took the teen to the OSU Wexner Medical Center where Worthington says he is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
The statement says a gun was recovered at the scene.
No officers were injured.
Charges are pending and the investigation is continuing, Worthington said.
