COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus teenager shot by police after a chase over the weekend has not been charged in connection with the incident, which remains under investigation by the Division of Police Critical Incident Response Team.
Dabron White, 17, was shot by officers during a confrontation Saturday in a wooded area at Stonegate Circle and Olde Ridenour Road on the city’s east side, police spokesman Sgt. Rich Weiner said. The incident stemmed from a domestic dispute on Stirlingshire Court that led to a chase in a car and on foot.
A handgun was recovered, Weiner said.
White remains hospitalized at Grant Medical Center in stable condition, according to Weiner.
The officers involved in the shooting were identified as Ofc. Mathew Jenkins and Ofc. Thomas Pierson, both two-year veterans assigned to the Patrol Bureau.
Weiner says White has not been charged in connection with the shooting but is under arrest for two warrants of assault and criminal damaging associated with a woman who lives at the Stirlingshire Court
The woman who was driving the vehicle in the chase has been identified as an adult member of White’s family but it wasn’t clear whether she was forced from the vehicle or exited by choice, Weiner says.
She left the scene after being picked up by other family members and remains uncooperative with investigators, Weiner said.
