COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police says they have a person of interest but have named no suspects and have made no arrests in the deadly shooting of a teenage girl on the Southeast Side Monday night.
Several people were inside the home at 1253 S. Champion Avenue when Shevona Whitehead was shot in the chest, homicide detectives said. The witnesses told investigators that two young men were seen running from the home and a police dispatcher said a weapon was found in the backyard.
Whitehead, 17, was found inside the home, suffering from a gunshot wound, and she died less than hour later at Grant Medical Center.
This is the 56th homicide of 2014.
