Terps’ 3rd QB the charm

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – In the locker room after its surprise win at Minnesota last week, the Maryland football team held a spirited celebration that centered upon a player who started the season as a third-string quarterback.

No. 10/9 Ohio St. (4-1, 2-0 Big Ten) vs. Maryland (3-1, 1-0), Ohio Stadium, Oct. 7 (4:00 p.m./FOX)

Max Bortenschlager, a drop-back passer operating in a read-option offense, delivered a near-flawless performance to carry the Terrapins to a 31-24 victory in their Big Ten opener over previously unbeatemn Minneota.

The third starter to see action for the Terrapins so far due to injuries, Bortenschlager finished 18-of-28 for 154 yards and one TD against the Gophers.

The Terps iced the game with a 34-yard touchdown run by Ty Johnson with under two minutes remaining to break a 24-all tie.

Maryland opened its season with an upset at Texas.

Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer will be facing a former assistant coach for the second consecutive week. D.J. Durbin, 9-8 at Maryland, was a graduate assistant while Meyer was head coach at Bowling Green in 2001 and 2002.
