Thanksgiving pay raise

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A state lawmaker wants retail workers forced to work on Thanksgiving to get paid more.

State Rep. Mike Foley (D-Cleveland) is proposing a bill that would require stores to pay employees three times their regular salary to work on Thanksgiving and the first 12 hours of Black Friday.

Foley says it’s “disturbing” that the Christmas shopping season begins on a holiday, sapping the day of its meaning.

Walmart, Kohl’s, Target, Toys R Us, Macy’s and JC Penney are among the major retailers who say they will open their doors on Thanksgiving.
