COLUMBUS, Ohio – How big is the Big Give? Between now and 10:00 Wednesday morning, organizers of the fundraiser expect to take one credit card donation every 4.8 seconds for 24 hours.
The fund drive, sponsored by the Columbus Foundation, offers a $1.3 million “bonus fund,” its largest ever, to amplify the more than 18,000 donations officials anticipate from the public, which will go toward approximately 600 eligible charitable organizations.
In 2014, the effort raised over $10.6 million from 10,000 donors for 530 local non-profit organizations.
The foundation covers all credit card fees, which means that 100 percent of the donated funds will go to the giver’s designated charity.
Donations start at $20 and homegrown companies Piada, Donato’s, and Homage have offered rewards equaling one half of a $20 donation.
