Thefts in Dublin spike

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police in Dublin say, after a recent downturn, they are seeing an increase in thefts from homes and vehicles.

As of July 22, Dublin police say they handled 23 reports of burglaries or breaking and entering, and 28 thefts from vehicles, since the first of June, Chief Heinz von Eckartsberg said.

He says anyone who sees any kind of suspicious behavior should call police.

“If you see something and think that it just doesn’t look right, take a minute to let us know. The call you make may help prevent a crime,” von Eckartsberg said

Investigators note similarities in this rash of thefts:

The burglaries most often occur around 5:00 and 6:00 a.m., between 3:00 and 5:00 in the afternoon and between 7:00 p.m. and midnight, von Eckartsberg.

He says several of the thefts occurred at construction sites.

Suspect are targeting vehicles between noon and 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. They often breaking a window to steal purses, wallets, tools and items left in plain sight, von Eckartsberg says.
