COLUMBUS , Ohio – Officials at Denison University say extra law enforcement after a phone threat of violence ptompted a lockdownm on the Granville campus and at nearby public schools.
According to a statement on the university’s website,
a telephone call threatening violence by someone who would be coming onto the campus was received shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Authorities activated a campus-wide emergency alert system, assembled its crisis response team, and placed the campus on lockdown. Students, employees and visitors remained inside buildings, and the campus perimeter was secured by law enforcement agencies.
The Granville Exempted Village School District also placed its building on lockdown at the request of police.
The campus lockdown was lifted at 3:36 p.m. after it was determined that there was no legitimate threat.
University officials say they were tolkd by authorities that several high schools and colleges received nearly identical phone threats, some simultaneous with the one phoned in to Denison.
University officials say local, state and federal authorities were involved in the response.
