Tides 9, Clippers 5

COLUMBUS – The Clippers lost a lead, rallied to tie the score, but finally gave up four runs to lose the opener of a three-game series in Norfolk 9-5.

Giovanni Soto (2-1) gave up the four runs that made the difference for the Tides a wild 8th inning. In spite of Clippers fielders throwing out two Norfolk runners at the plate, four others made it across safely.

The Clippers jumped out to a 4-0 lead but surrendered four runs in the 4th inning and another in the 6th before Michael Martinez scored the tying run in the top of the 8th.

The series continues Tuesday night.
