COLUMBUS – Crew SC missed a chance to take command of the MLS Eastern Conference and clinch a playoff berth by dropping a 2-1 decision to the Portland Timbers in front of third straight sellout crowd at MAPFRE Stadium Saturday night.
Forward Kei Kamara extended his league-leading 22nd goal by scoring in the 43rd minute to tie the score, but The Timbers’ Fanendo Adi’s second goal of the match, scored in the 50th minute, proved to be the game-winner.
The crowd of 22,719 was the largest at MAPFRE Stadium since 2008.
Crew SC next plays on Saturday when it travels to Red Bull Arena to meet the New York Red Bulls (7:00 p.m. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).
