COLUMBUS – Two athletes with ties to Ohio State qualified for U.S. Olympic teams over the weekend.
Hunter Armstrong, a junior from Dover, qualified for the swimming team during the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb.
Armstrong made the team in the 100-meter backstroke with a personal-best time of 52.48 seconds in the finals Tuesday evening to finish second to 2016 100 and 200 backstroke gold medalist and world-record holder Ryan Murphy.
Christina Clemons, a two-time NCAA champion during her time as a Buckeye, qualified for the track and field team in the 100-meter hurdles.
Clemons competed for Ohio State from 2009-12, was an 11-time All-American and a 10-time Big Ten champion, including eight individual championships.
The Olympics are set to open July 23.
