Tracking mobile food

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The tricky thing about food on wheels is: It’s often not in the same place it was yesterday and you don’t know when it will be back.

The City of Columbus is trying to help food truck vendors and fans keep track of the popular mobile wagons with a new website, City Council member Zach Klein said.

Vendors register for locations around the city online and diners in search of a pita, taco or other fare can use the same website to locate their favorite food wagon on a map. Customers can also sign up for daily and weekly email advisories letting them know the location of their favorite trucks and what is on the menu.

The online registry developed by Kaplan Artists Group is the latest phase of the city’s Mobile Food Vending Program.

Council in 2014 approved legislation that allows food trucks, which could previously only sell their products on private property, under the eyes of the Mobile Food Vending Board.
