Traficant burial

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) – A spokeswoman for the family of former U.S. Representative James A. Traficant Jr. says a private funeral service was held Monday for the 17-year northeast Ohio congressman who died on Saturday.

Traficant died at a hospice near Youngstown after he was moved there from a hospital on Friday, Heidi Hanni said.

Traficant, 73, was found unconscious nearly a week ago after a vintage tractor he was driving flipped over at his family’s farm.

He had served in the U.S. House from 1985 until his expulsion in 2002. He had refused to resign despite being convicted of bribery and racketeering charges.

Traficant served seven years in prison before being released in 2009.
