Train-pedestrian accidents on the rise

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A safety group says the number of pedestrians who have been struck by trains in Ohio is up 40 percent this year.

Operation Lifesaver says Ohio ranks sixth in the U.U. in the number of train-pedestrian accidents.

The most recent incident involves an Obetz teen, severely injured while “train-jumping” on CSX tracks near his home, according to ABC6/FOX28. Brandon Pratt, 16, is recovering at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the TV station reported.

A 13-year-old boy was killed when he tried to jump a train in downtown Columbus while taking a shortcut to a swimming pool this summer.
