COLUMBUS – For the 26th year in a row, the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Ohio Christmas Tree Association are sending a bit of Ohio greenery to troops serving overseas.
The agency and the association, with the help of UPS, mounted Operation Evergreen Wednesday at the department’s Reynoldsburg headquarters, director Dorothy Pelanda said.
Trees are donated by various Ohio Christmas tree growers and inspected by ODA nursery inspectors before being delivered to soldiers serving in the armed forces overseas by UPS.
In addition to the trees, decorations were donated by local schools, churches, and veterans’ groups.
Operation Evergreen has been an annual event since 1995.
