Tribe sweep Bosox in ALDS

BOSTON (AP) — Cleveland closer Cody Allen hung on in the last two innings, and the Indians beat the Boston Red Sox 4-3 Monday to complete a three-game sweep of their AL Division Series.

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz walked in the final plate appearance of his major league career but could only watch from the dugout when Travis Shaw hit a game-ending flyout with a pair of runners on.

Rookie Tyler Naquin delivered a two-run single and Josh Tomlin pitched five strong innings.

The Indians wait until Friday to begin their ALCS against the Blue Jays

The break interrupts a strong run for the wild-card Jays, who won their sixth straight game by beating Texas on Sunday to wrap their ALDS sweep. Players say, however, the four-day rest is still welcome. Catcher Russell Martin notes some folks might argue it will throw the Jays’ timing off but he doesn’t believe that. At this point in the season, martin says a couple days off “can do wonders.”
