COLUMBUS – Three murders committed in Columbus in a 24-hour period raised the yearly total of homicides in the city to 122.
A man police say confessed to stabbing his boyfriend to death at a Northeast Side condominium complex was arrested Wednesday morning.
Officers responding to a reported stabbing on Windham Club at 11:05 a.m. were met by a 28-year-old man who told them he had killed his boyfriend, Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Homicide Unit said.
The officers found a man inside the apartment who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dalante Mitchell has been charged with murder.
The name of the victim had not been released early Thursday.
Two fatal shootings happened at gas stations overnight, one on N. Cassady Avenue near John Glenn Columbus International Airport and the most recent on the South Side.
Kaylian Redd was found lying in a grassy area at the intersection of Airport Drive and N. Cassady Avenue at approximately 1:42 a.m. Thursday, suffering from a gunshots wound, Sgt. Edward Powell III said.
Witnesses told investigators Redd, 20, was seen leaving the gas station across the street when someone in a dark-colored SUV fired several shots at him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An unidentified man was found by officers lying in the parking lot of the Mobil Service Station at 1509 Lockbourne Road at 1:34 a.m., suffering from a gunshot wound and he died later at a hospital, Sgt. David Shimberg of the Homicide Unit said.
UPDATE 8/2/21 8:00 a.m.: The victim in this homicide has been identified as Richard Lane, 57.
Detectives say information indicates that there was a shootout between multiple individuals in the parking lot and the victim was struck at that time, Shimberg said.
The victim’s identity had not been determined and there was no information available on suspects.
