Trump courts Ohioans, minorities

COLUMBUS – Campaigning in northeast Ohio Monday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continued his effort to woo minority voters, telling blacks and Hispanics that if he’s elected president, “You’ll be able to walk down the street without getting shot.”

Trump says the level of violence in some U.S. cities “is something no American should consider acceptable.”

He also predicted he would win the vote in the key swing state on his way to winning the White House in November.

Continuing to tout his immigration policies, Trump said low-income minorities are hurt the most when borders aren’t under control.

Trump called his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton’s, immigration plan “radical,” and said it would amount to having open borders.

Trump repeated his plan for “extreme vetting,” requiring potential immigrants to submit to a screening test, and his promise to build a wall across the U.S. border with Mexico.

The Clinton campaign’s director of state campaigns and political engagement, Marlon Marshall said Trump is “doubling down on insults, fear and stereotypes that set our community back and further divide our country.”
