Trump’s promise: Law and order

COLUMBUS – Donald Trump painted a picture of a nation in crisis, vowing to restore “law and order” in his speech Thursday night at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Trump formally accepted the GOP’s presidential nomination in a 76-minute speech during which he used the phrase “law and order” multiple times.

“We will be a country of generosity and warmth,” he told the energized crowd of delegates at Quicken Loans Arena. “But we will also be a country of law and order.”

Trump says America he’ll restore the safety that Americans fear they’re losing, strictly curb immigration and save the nation from what he says is Hillary Clinton’s record of “death, destruction, terrorism and weakness.”

“Trump painted a dark picture of an America in decline. And his answer – more fear, more division, more anger, more hate — was yet another reminder that he is temperamentally unfit and totally unqualified to be President,” John Podesta, chair of Clinton’s campaign, said in a statement.

Soon after Trump made one last promise to “make America great again,” a slow-moving, confetti-and-balloon blizzard floated down on the convention hall in Cleveland. More than 125,000 balloons — some as big as beach balls — floated down on the dancing delegates.
