NEWARK – Newark police say two men may face charges in multiple violent assaults, two of which they recorded on video.
Alfredo Coyra, 35, of Newark, was identified as the suspect in an assault on a 49-year-old man, who suffered serious head injuries, at an address on High Street on Jan. 28, and during the course of the investigation, police learned that Coyra was involved in at least two other assaults and obtained videos of the incidents, Newark Division of Police spokesman Sgt. Clint Eskins said.
A second suspect was identified in the video as Paul David Wagoner, 32, also of Newark.
The first video shows Coyra and Wagoner beating and tying up a 31-year-old Newark man who has been identified and is cooperating with detectives and beating him with fists, knives, baseball bat, and other blunt objects prior to tying him up and locking him in a basement for a reported day and a half, Eskins said.
The second video shows a 19 year-old from Newark, following an assault where the victim and witnesses say Coyra used a pipe to beat the man for what was said to be up to an hour, Eskins said.
After the beating, the victim was video recorded and forced to say he worked for the Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force, Eskins said.
Coyra and Wagoner were arrested and both are at the Licking County Justice Center.
Eskins said the case has been turned over to the Licking County Prosecutor’s office to be reviewed for possible charges of felonious assault, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of kidnapping for Coyra and single counts of attempted murder and kidnapping for Wagoner.
Investigators believe there are additional victims of crimes involving the suspects in the Newark area which have not been reported.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Newark Police Detective Bureau at 740-670-7201.
