COLUMBUS – The elephant herd at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium grew by 50 percent Tuesday with the arrival of a couple of sisters from Florida.
Two female Asian elephants arrived at the zoo Tuesday morning from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Center for Elephant Conservation outside Tampa, Fla.
The additions of 14-year-old Rudy (above right) and eight-year-old Sundara (left), known as Sunny, the Columbus zoo’s herd now consists of four female and two male elephants.
Officials hope males Hank and Beco, will breed with Rudy and Sunny.
Sunny and Rudy will be kept in quarantine before being introduced to the other elephants and visitors.
