Two men dead in separate shootings

COLUMBUS – A man confessed to shooting his girlfriend’s brother in one of a pair of shooting incidents Sunday night and Monday morning that left two men dead, Columbus police said.

Savon Frost, 24, and his girlfriend returned to the scene of a fatal shooting at a Southwest Side apartment building Monday morning where Frost confessed to shooting James Bishop, Homicide Unit Sgt. Eric Pilya said.

Officers found Bishop, 29, lying on the floor of the residence at 8:13 a.m. Monday after a caller told dispatchers that her cousin had been shot, Pilya said.

Frost has been charged with murder.

Police are still looking for whoever fired shots into a home on the Hilltop, killing Stacie Ramon Hester, following an argument, late Sunday, according to Sgt. J.R. Strayer of the Homicide Unit.

Witnesses told detectives that Hester, 49, and the suspect were fighting at approximately 11:47 p.m. Sunday when the suspect pulled a handgun and threatened Hester, who was able to force the suspect out of the S. Richardson Street house through a rear sliding glass door, Strayer said.

Seconds later, Hester was struck by shots that were fired through the sliding glass door by the suspect, who ran away, Strayer said.

Officers called to the home on a report of gunfire found Hester lying on the floor, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Strayer said.

He was pronounced dead just before 2:00 Monday morning at Grant Medical Center, Strayer said.

The investigation continues.
