UA recall falls way short

COLUMBUS – Four Upper Arlington city council members faced with being recalled by voters are keeping their jobs.

Results of yesterday’s contentious special election show the effort to recall council president Deborah Johnson and council members John Adams, David DeCapua and Francis “Kip” Greenhill fell short by a roughly 60 percent-to-40 percent margin.

Greenhill beat back the challenge the most decisively, with 62.4 of the 9,983 voters casting ballots voting to retain him. Johnson’s margin was the slimmest: 58.2 percent to 41.8 percent.

The recall was the result of complaints from a group of residents who say the council doesn’t listen to community input, especially criticism.

According to the Franklin County Board of Elections, 36.7 percent of registered voters went to the polls.
