UA sees first murder since 2010

UPPER ARLINGTON – Police in Upper Arlington are investigating the death of a 31-year-old Columbus man in the city’s first homicide in eight years, according to a police department spokesperson.

Police said a 31-year-old man is dead and the suspect has not been caught, WBNS 10-TV reported.

Upper Arlington police said there was a report of a fight near a shopping plaza in the 1600 block of W. Lane Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Monday and when officers arrived they found a man bleeding and unresponsive. The man was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital where he died.

Police said an arrest warrant has been issued for 51-year-old Jeffery L. Smith.

He is 5’9″ tall and weighs about 180 pounds.

Police are not releasing how the victim died or their identification, other than he was from Columbus.
