COLUMBUS – A teenage girl’s unborn child died after the girl was injured in a drive-by shooting on the Northeast Side Sunday night, one of two people shot to death over the weekend as the violent summer of 2020 continues in Columbus.
At least nine people were shot in various incidents over the weekend, eight of them on Sunday, police said.
The 15-year-old girl was shot from a passing car while she was walking with a man in the area of near Joyce and Denune avenues at 7:30 p.m., Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.
Clinton Township paramedics took the girl to Grant Medical Center where she was in stable condition, but the baby boy did not survive and was pronounced dead at 10:46 p.m., Marable said.
The man was not injured during the incident.
Virgilio Aguilera died after being shot in another drive-by shooting on a West Side street at approximately 7:17 p.m. Sunday.
Someone fired multiple rounds from a vehicle as it drove by an address in the 5300 block of, striking the 52-year-old Aguilera, who was taken to a hospital in critical condition.by Prairie Township paramedics, Sgt. David Shimberg said.
He died just before 10:00 p.m., the 90th homicide victim of the year in Columbus.

The unborn baby boy, his mother and Aquilera were among eight people shot between 12:34 a.m. and 10:36 p.m. Sunday.
A 17-was shot three times and a 19-year-old man was hit in the hand when someone opened fire on them while they were standing in the 1700 block of Kossuth Avenue at 12:34 a.m. Sunday.
A man and woman were outside an after-hours bar on the East Side and walked into Mount Carmel East Hospital just after 4:00 a.m. The 26-year-old woman was shot in the right leg and the 28-year-old man was hit in the left hand. Both are expected to survive, according to Det. Bob McCotter of the Felony Assault Unit.
According to the Columbus Division of Police Twitter feed, a juvenile victim was shot at 10:36 p.m. Sunday, but there was no other information immediately available.
Officers who heard multiple gunshots in the area of Civic Center Drive in downtown Columbus just before 2:00 a.ml. Saturday found Leshayn Holmes, 27, suffering from a gunshot wound to the pelvis. She was taken to Grant Medical Center and was in stable condition, detectives said.

Two Columbus teenagers have been sent to youth prison in connection with fatal shootings last year in Columbus, one of which authorities said involved another teen killed over a cellphone and the other was described an accidental shooting of a friend by a youth playing with a gun.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that one defendant was 13 when he shot and killed 14-year-old Jaykwon Sharp in May 2019.
The now-14-year-old youth entered an admission to a charge of delinquency murder in a shooting prosecutors said occurred during an argument over a cellphone.
A 14-year-old girl was also wounded, but an assault charge was dismissed.
