COLUMBUS, Ohio – The price of gasoline in Columbus crossed, and re-crossed, the $2-a-gallon threshold over the weekend.
The average was $1.99 per gallon of regular gas in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s down two cents overnight, but 16 cents higher than one week ago as prices rebounded last week, despite the continuing decline in the price of crude oil
The price is 45 cents lower than a month a ago and $1.44 cheaper than this time in 2014.
The state average has dropped below $2 in recent weeks for the first time in more than five years.

Monday’s average price of $1.97 was seven cents more than a week ago and $1.43 cheaper than this time last year.
Oil slipped below $48 a barrel Monday and is down 44 percent in the past three months, reflecting high supplies and muted demand from much of the world.
The national average Monday was $2.13 for regular gas, up seven cents from last week.
