Upset by roadwork noise, man punches officer

COLUMBUS – A man angered by overnight road construction punched a Columbus police officer who is reportedly the son of Chief Kim Jacobs.

Dwight Davis was upset about the noise from a construction project on an exit ramp from Sullivant Avenue to I-70 on the West Side at about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday and went to the site to confront workers, police said.

The workers told officers who responded to their call that Davis, 62, had threatened to go home and get a firearm, police said.

Officers went to Davis’ Thomas Avenue home when he called to complain about the construction noise in front of his house and he greeted them with curses and police say he grew more belligerent, finally punching one of the officers in the nose twice, causing a nosebleed.

WBNS 10-TV identified the injured 25-year-old officer as Peter Jacobs and said he is the son of Columbus Chief of Police Kim Jacobs.

Davis was arrested and charged with assaulting a peace officer, menacing and obstructing official business, according to detectives with the Assault Unit.

Jacobs was treated at the scene.
