COLUMBUS – Slightly more Ohioans applied for unemployment benefits last week but, nationwide, layoffs have settled to the low, pre-pandemic levels before 2020′s coronavirus recession.
Ohioans filed 11,919 first-time unemployment benefits last week, 10.3% more than the previous week, according to data provided by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services to the U.S. Department of Labor Thursday.
Ohioans filed 56,833 continued claims last week, which was 2,718 less than the previous week, a decline of 4.5%. The total number of traditional claims filed from February 27 to March 5 was 2.2% lower than the week before.
The four-week moving average of unemployment claims in Ohio 4.5% lower than the previous period while in the U.S., it is at its lowest level in more than 50 years.
