The Ohio House of Representatives and Nationwide Insurance teamed up to bring the unit to Columbus for a special performance, the first time the detachment performed its large-scale ceremonial drill at the Statehouse.

The event, which was open to the public, was presented on the west lawn of the Statehouse to recognize May as National Military Appreciation Month.

The performance included the U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, the Silent Drill Platoon and the Official Color Guard of the Marine Corps performing music and precision drill marches.

The U.S. Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment is comprised of 130 Marines who travel throughout the United States and world to perform their drills as a representation of the pride, professionalism and “esprit de corps” demonstrated by the Marine Corps.

Hailing from Marine Barracks Washington D.C., the group is known as the “Oldest Post of the Corps.”
