COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Firefighters are still trying to figure out why a vacant East Side home exploded, injuring a man who happened to be nearby.
The explosion on Sunday afternoon leveled the house in the 500 block of Lilley Avenue. A man working in the neighborhood, Brandon Dotson, said he went to look after hearing the blast and found a man buried under the fallen porch.
Dotson told The Columbus Dispatch that he and some other people got the porch off of the man, who was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening. His name hasn’t been released.
An adjacent home was damaged from the resulting fire, and one firefighter suffered minor burns and also was taken to a hospital.
Firefighters and Columbia Gas were investigating.
