COLUMBUS, Ohio – The sacrifices and service of America’s servicemen and women will be recognized today across the nation, including central Ohio.
The Veterans Day holiday will be observed with memorial events in Dublin, Gahanna, Hilliard, Delaware, Lancaster and Marysville, among other communities.
Many government offices will be closed today, though City of Columbus offices will remain open. Trash, yard waste and recycling in the city will be picked up but mail service is delayed until tomorrow.
Veterans are being rewarded for their service at several local businesses, including Bob Evans, Tim Horton’s and Great Clips, who are offering free meals and discounts to veterans and active-duty military.
President Barack Obama plans to attend a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
The District of Columbia will honor two of the original Tuskegee Airmen with the Congressional Gold Medal and a wreath will be placed at the African American Civil War Memorial.
