COLUMBUS – Two men accused of violently assaulting a bartender will be charged with murder since Gregory Coleman Jr. died as a result of the beating he received two weeks ago.
Coleman, 37, was pronounced at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, 13 days after police say the Short North Pint House employee was allegedly assaulted by Chrystian Foster and Dwayne Cummings in the 1000 Block of N. High Street early on the morning of Sept. 5., according to Sgt. David Shimberg of the Columbus police Homicide Unit.
Coleman is seen on security video fighting with one man before another strikes him in the head and the two men then continue to attack Coleman while he lies on the ground.
Officers found Coleman partially lying in the street and he was transported to OSU Wexner Medical Center in critical condition.
This is the 98th homicide in Columbus in 2022.
Attempted murder charges were filed against Foster, 32, and Cummings, 28, and Shimberg says those charges will be upgraded to murder charges.
Anyone with information about this incident or the whereabouts of the suspects are asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730.
Police search for murder suspect

Police are looking for a 25-year-old woman in connection with the fatal shooting of a man on the Northeast Side, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the Homicide Unit said.
Mercedes G.B. Reyes, whose last known address was on Whittier Street, has been charged with murder in the death of Shomari Little, 26, in the 1000 block of E. 13th Avenue on Sept. 10.
Little’s death was the 95th homicide of the year in Columbus, Powell said.
Man’s death is suspicious
Columbus police are treating the death of an unidentified man found in a vacant home on the Northeast Side Monday as suspicious, Shimberg said.
Officers responding to a report of a body in a vacant home in the 1300 Block of E. Hudson Street at 12:21 p.m. found the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to extenuating circumstances, Shimberg says the Homicide Unit was called in and investigators are still attempting to identify the man.
The Franklin County Coroner’s Office will determine the manner and cause of death, Shimberg said.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call the Columbus police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
