COLUMBUS, Ohio – An attempted break-in in the Short North went very wrong for the would-be burglar.
Armed with a knife, John Patchen, forced his way into Roger Mullett’s apartment at High Street and E. 5th Avenue just after 2:00 Thursday afternoon and tried to stab him but Mullet tackled him and the two began to struggle, said Det. James Jude with the Columbus Police Assault Unit.
Both men were injured during the fight before Mullett, 48, got the upper hand and was waiting to meet officers when they arrived.
Mullett suffered a minor cut to his hand while Patchen, 52, suffered a stab wound Jude says was self-inflicted. He was listed in stable condition at a nearby hospital and is facing a charge of aggravated burglary, police said.
