Victim shoots holdup man

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police say a man abducted and robbed at gunpoint Friday evening turned the tables on the suspect with fatal results.

Kenneth Owens, 46, met officers when they arrived at the scene of a reported shooting in the area of Sutton and N. Hague Avenues on the West Side just after 7:30 p.m. on Friday, homicide detectives said.

Owens told the officers an unidentified man took his wallet and forced him at gunpoint to a bank to withdraw money from an ATM. While driving to the bank, police said Owens took out his own handgun and shot the suspect, who died later at Mt. Carmel West Hospital.

This is the 28th Homicide of the year in Columbus, police say.
