COLUMBUS – Police say a suspect connected to a 2016 murder has said that he wanted to commit “suicide by cop.”

Homicide detectives say Ian Winkler, 28, removed evidence from the scene of a murder in North Linden on Dec. 8, when a 50-year-old man was found dead inside a home on Hiawatha Street.
Officers called to check on the well-being of the man who lived at the home found Allan Beatty unresponsive, investigators said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A warrant was filed for Winkler’s arrest on one count of tampering with evidence for taking items from the scene of the crime, police said.
Police say Winkler has been documented making statements that he wants to kill himself and die by “suicide by cop,” the term used to describe what happens when a suspect intentionally forces an officer to respond with deadly force.
Anyone with information as to Winkler’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
