WBK: Maryland loss sets up Buckeyes for title

COLUMBUS – Ohio State can clinch its 16th Big Ten championship and the top seed in next week’s Big Ten Tournament with a win in the Buckeyes’ regular season finale at Penn State Sunday.

Big Ten 2018 Women’s Basketball Tournament: Wed., Feb. 28 – Sun. March 4; Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis

Maryland fell at Michigan, 71-65, Thursday night, giving the Buckeyes a one game lead and OSU (23-6, 12-3 Big Ten) can win the title outright with a victory over the Lady Lions (Sun., Noon/ESPN2).

The Buckeyes’ 16th conference title would be the most of any school in the conference and a second straight title for the Ohio State, which shared the crown with Maryland a year ago.

The last time OSU won back-to-back conference titles came during a six-year championship run from 2005-10.

Penn State is one of two Big Ten teams that Ohio State has a losing record against as the Lady Lions lead the all-time series 36-27 but the Buckeyes have won six straight in the series, including a 94-64 romp in the teams’ first meeting this season in Columbus.
