COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio’s last state-run BMV customer service center will close by next summer and a new deputy registrar will open on the West Side.
The Bureau of Motor Vehicles service center at 1970 West Broad Street will close on July 1 and the bureau will rent space for a privately operated registrar in the West Broad Plaza, 4135-4143 W. Broad Street at the southwest corner of W. Broad Street and Georgesville Road, Registrar Mike Rankin said.
“This conversion will boost local economic development efforts and reduce costs for the BMV and taxpayers by an estimated $1 million a year. The new location will create jobs and invest in the west side neighborhood’s ongoing economic development success,” Rankin said.
Unlike the current site, the new location will be open on Saturdays and Rankin says parking will be more convenient.
Employees from the service center will still have jobs with the state Department of Public Safety, Rankin said.
Rankin also said a new Driver Examination Station location and “one-stop-shop” on the North Side will be announced soon.
