WESTERVILLE – One of Westerville’s K9 officers is getting some extra protection, thanks to a Delaware man’s donation and the efforts of an organization that provides bullet- and stab-protective vests to dogs.
Westerville Division of Police K9 Officer Bruno will receive a protective vest, sponsored by Greg Nobis of Delaware, and thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
The vests weighs an average of 4-5 pounds, come with a five-year warranty and each one costs between $1,744 and $2,283, though Vested Interest in K9s says a single donation of $960 will sponsor one vest.
This is the second vest provided to a WPD K9 by Vested Interest in K9s and should arrive in eight to 10 weeks, said Westerville K9 program manager Sgt. Bryan Schwartz. The organization donated a vest to K9 Fiji, who retired in 2020.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., was established in 2009.
