White Castle recalls frozen burgers

COLUMBUS – White Castle voluntary recalled some packages of its frozen burgers due to possible listeria contamination.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Columbus-based company has recalled a limited number of packages of frozen 6-pack cheeseburgers, hamburgers and jalapeno cheeseburgers, and 16-pack hamburgers and cheeseburgers due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

To date, public health officials have not reported any illness associated with these products.

The voluntary recall will impact products with “best by” dates ranging from Aug. 4 to Aug. 17 2020.

Products with a “best by” date before or after these are not included in the voluntary recall.
