WAVERLY, Ohio – Fire officials say a wildfire scorched more than two dozen acres near a state park in southern Ohio.
Firefighters from multiple departments were called to the scene when the fire was reported Tuesday afternoon in the vicinity of Scioto Trail State Park, near Chillicothe. There was no word on how the blaze began.
Franklin Township Fire Chief Mike Menendez tells the Chillicothe Gazette that the fire burned an estimated 25 to 35 acres of state property. He says it came within about 100 feet of several homes but none was damaged, and no one was hurt.
WBNS-TV reported some homes in the area were evacuated because windy weather was spreading the fire and the smoke. Much of Ohio was under a fire risk advisory Tuesday due to dry conditions and high winds.
