Win streal closes gap in IL West

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Clippers head into the All-Star break with a share of the top sport in the International League West after beating the Indianapolis Indians 9-5 Sunday afternoon.

After losing three in a row, including both games of a doubleheader against the Indians Thursday, the Clippers won four in a row and are tied with Indianapolis for the division lead.

Tyler Cloyd (7-5) kept the Indians off the scoreboard until the sixth inning, striking out five batters on the way to the win. Casey Sadler (8-2) was saddled with the loss.

Columbus took a 6-3 lead into the ninth, when they scored three runs and held off a rally in the bottom of the inning, when Brent Morel hit a two-out, two-run single. The game ended when Tony Sanchez flied out to right fielder Carlos Moncrief.

The Clippers are off until Thursday with the All-Star game in Durham Wednesday (7:00/MLB Network).

The next game is Thursday at Huntington Park at 7:05 p.m. against the Indians.
