COLUMBUS, Ohio – Central Ohio’s run of mild weather is coming to an end as arctic cold moves into the area from the northern Plains.
Columbus city crews began are pre-treating bridges, overpasses, inclines and ramps with brine today in anticipation of snow in the next 48 hours, Service Department spokesman Steven Cordetti said.

National Weather Service forecasters say a cold front arrived overnight, driving morning lows into the low 20’s with highs this week expected to only reach the mid 20’s. The outlook also includes occasional snow showers from New Year’s Day through Friday.
Much of the northern U.S. is struggling with wintry weather.
Temperatures plunged to dangerously cold levels in the northern Plains on Sunday: -49 degrees in Fargo and -35 in International Falls, Minn.
About 4,500 homes and businesses in Maine lost electricity over the weekend after more than a foot of snow fell in some areas. Another 10 inches is expected to fall in New England today.
In Michigan, nearly 3,200 customers have been without power for a week.
