Woman arrested for calling 911 after parents cut off cell phone

CANTON (AP) — Everyone knows you’re supposed to call 911 only for emergencies.

But not everyone agrees on what an emergency is.

Authorities in Canton arrested a woman for dialing 911 because her parents cut her cellphone service.

Police say 36-year-old Seloni Khetarpal was arrested this month and charged with disrupting police services.

The Canton Repository quotes jail records as saying the woman repeatedly dialed 911 to complain her parents shut off her cellphone.

At one point, an officer told her 911 is only for emergencies.

But two hours later, she called again and insisted her cellphone service was “a legitimate issue.”

That led to her arrest.
