Woman arrested in 2014 double slaying

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A 32-year-old West Side woman is in jail, charged with two counts of murder for her role in a double-homicide nearly a year ago.

Columbus police SWAT officers arrested Sophia Childs Wednesday on charges stemming from a deadly shooting at a Franklinton home in July 2014, detectives with the Homicide Unit said.

Robert Bass, 22, and Cherod Houchins, 21, were shot to death at approximately 9:20 p.m. on July 28 inside a home at 85 Stevens Avenue, police said.

Bass was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the upper body and Houchins died later at Mount Carmel West Hospital, detectives said.

Witnesses told police there were several people inside the home when two black men entered through the back door, fired several shots, and ran away.
