Woman hit, dragged in fatal hit-skip

COLUMBUS – Columbus police say they are looking for a silver vehicle that struck and dragged a woman in a fatal hit-skip accident in the Driving Park neighborhood early Sunday.

UPDATE 4/02/19 6:19 a.m.: The victim has been identified as Garnet Louise Jones, 62, of Columbus.

The body of the woman, whose name was not released because her family had not been notified of her death, was found outside the Driving Park Recreation Center just after 12:30 a.m. by officers responding to a call to the Columbus police radio room reporting a person lying on the ground at the rec center at 1100 Rhoads Avenue, Sgt. Brooke Wilson of the Accident Investigation Unit said.

Investigators determined that the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had been hit by a vehicle in the area of E. Whittier Street and Fairwood Avenue and dragged to the location where her body was found, Wilson said.

UPDATE 4/05/19 8:25 a.m.: Evidence suggests that a silver/grey 2-door Cadillac CTS may have been involved in this incident.

This is the city’s 11th traffic related fatality of 2019 in Columbus, Wilson said.
