Woman jailed after death of partner ruled a homicide

COLUMBUS – A 39-year-old woman on a murder charge stemming from an incident of domestic violence in July that left her 64-year-old partner dead.

On July 4, Dana Colbert and Harry Gaines were involved in a domestic dispute in their Grasmere Avenue home and witnesses at the scene told police that Colbert pushed Gaines down, which caused him to strike his head on the ground, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

The two were involved in another altercation four days later and Gaines was later admitted to Riverside Medical Center with difficulty breathing and he died on Aug. 1, Powell said.

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide on Aug. 9 and an arrest warrant was issued for Colbert.

Colbert was arrested Thursday by the Columbus Police SWAT Unit and taken to the Franklin County Jail.

This is the 84th homicide of 2022 in Columbus.
