Woman says she shot intruder

COLUMBUS – No charges had been filed early Wednesday against a woman who told police she shot a man who kicked in a door and broke in on her and her baby in their East Side home Tuesday morning.

The woman, whose name was not released, told a 911 dispatcher she was alone with her baby at their Hampton Road home just after 10:00 a.m. when the man “kicked-in the side door” of the house, said Sgt. Dave Sicilian of the Homicide Unit.

She told police she shot the man and believed he was dead on the kitchen floor, Sicilian said.

Medics and officers dispatched to the scene found William J. Evans IV, 23, dead inside the home, said Sicilian.

The investigation continues but no charges had been filed.

This is the 64th homicide of the year in Columbus.
