Woman says she was set afire

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police are looking for the man suspected of setting a woman on fire on an East Side walking trail Wednesday afternoon.

The woman, whose name was not released, told police she was dragged into the bushes off the Blacklick Creek Greenway Trail near Shannon Road and Winchester Pike, sexually assaulted and set on fire.

Police say the woman, who is in her 20s, was in stable condition at a hospital Wednesday night with burns on her torso that are not life-threatening. Her attacker is being sought.

He is describes as white, in his 30’s, 6 feet tall with a thin build, clean-shaven with bushy eyebrows and was wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants and red gloves.

Police say the attacker came out of the bushes on the trail, dragged the woman back into them and sexually assaulted her. Then he poured a flammable liquid on her and used a lighter to set her on fire.

The woman ran onto the trail and was spotted by a person who called 911.
